Okay, I hope this will be my last post about this car for at least a while. I'm sick of the whole situation, to be honest.
So, long story short: Car broke down. Would cost more money to fix than my parents paid for the car anyway, and it's basically just counting down until it dies. Sooooo, we all ("we" being me and everyone in my life that feels they have the right to contribute an opinion) decided that it was time for me to buy a new car.
So my mother and I went out today to find one. We ended up looking at Kia, because they had some good deals going on, I guess. Tough economy provides, I guess. I, of course, was the practical one going, "NO I DON'T WANT POWER WINDOWS. NO I DON'T WANT POWER LOCKS. JUST GIVE ME SOMETHING TO TAKE ME FROM POINT A TO POINT B AT THE LOWEST POSSIBLE PRICE." And my mother was the one like, "Do they come in something other than black?"
Gag.
So, we found one that was the best possible deal. Negotiated as much off as possible. I think we actually got a really good price for it. Because it's actually a really nice car, in my opinion. Kia Spectra. Very shiny.
Then came the hard part. Uh, getting financed. Not fun.
Basically, no bank wants to touch a loan that I am anywhere near. Like, not even if I have a cosigner. The only way we could get financed is if the loan and car were in my mother's name. No joke. The finance guy was like, "Yeah, uh, when the bank people call to talk to you, don't tell them that the car is hers." Seriously!! He's like, "The credit market is really bad right now." Uh, you think!?
So the plan right now is me try to build credit. Gotta get a credit card or something. And in six months or so we'll refinance so we can actually get my name on the motherfucking loan and get me some real credit. Does this sound as ridiculous to you as it does to me???
I hate how things like that are set up. Apparently having a stable job for almost two years and making steady deposits into a bank account and conserving enough money to pay my way through college without student loans isn't really worth anything because I'm still an unreliable teenager working in retail. So my mommy's name still has to be on all the paperwork!!! Fuck them.
Oh well.
Overall, I'm quite pleased. Monthly payments are a little more than I hoped (not more than I expected though), but I wasn't comfortable putting down more than 1.5k as a downpayment. But the car is nice, and has a WARRANTY. Hell yeah. It's so clean though, and I'm still super paranoid when I'm driving it.
Silly anecdote: When we were test driving it, my mother commented how the backseat seemed to have plenty of space because the salesman had legroom back there, then remarked how she knew I didn't really care about the space. I keenly replied, "Yeah, if I'm not getting laid back there, it doesn't really matter." True facts.
